A photo of a child urinating near KLCC triggers outrage among Malaysians, with many calling for stricter enforcement and public hygiene awareness.

A PARENT believed by many social media users to be a foreign visitor has drawn criticism online after allegedly allowing their child to urinate in a public area near the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), with many questioning the lack of intervention and public hygiene awareness.

The photo, shared on Threads by user @afest_t, has garnered more than 12,500 likes and over 400 comments, with many Malaysians expressing frustration over what they described as poor public etiquette at one of the country’s most visited landmarks.

“Casually letting your child urinate there. Typical mainland behaviour!” the user wrote.

The post quickly triggered reactions from other social media users, some of whom claimed to have witnessed similar incidents in the past.

User @puteriawani commented: “It’s always been like that. Especially the grassy areas where people have picnics — that’s basically their children’s toilet. Ever since I saw it myself, I’ve never sat on the grass there again.”

“I went to Beijing in 2014 and casually saw a child urinating on the stairs leading into a subway station while the parent stood beside them. Maybe it’s normal behaviour there,” @abcdefghiamnotnickiminaj wrote.

Another user, @carerra1986, shared a separate experience, claiming: “I once saw a mother shopping in a clothing store while her child needed to urinate. She simply asked the nanny to hold a bottle while the child relieved himself and continued browsing as if nothing had happened.”

Some commenters called for stricter enforcement against public nuisance offences in busy areas.

“Investigate who it is, detain them and issue a fine. Malaysia needs to step up,” wrote @blackvoltmedia.

“That’s disgusting behaviour. They should be fined and banned from entering again,” @you_rnoona commented.

“Can’t we fine them? In Singapore, you can’t do things like this because of their hefty fines,” @human.cat10 added.

Others questioned whether bystanders or security personnel should have intervened when the incident allegedly occurred.

@aqlilirianacm wrote: “Didn’t anyone tell them off? I witnessed something similar before and kept insisting they clean it up immediately. Please normalise speaking up when necessary.”

“Did nobody shout at them? Are Malaysians only capable of watching these things happen?” @amer.syukor asked.

User @lokmanchejusoh also criticised what he viewed as a lack of civic awareness and regard for public hygiene.
