AS Hari Raya celebrations are underway, a growing number of Malaysians have taken to social media to vent their frustration over late-night firecracker activity, with many calling for greater consideration—especially after midnight.
One Threads user captured the sentiment in a now-viral post, writing: “I get it’s malam Raya, but it’s already past 12am.
“Why are there so many firecrackers like there’s no tomorrow? Please respect people’s time!”
The post quickly gained traction, resonating with netizens who shared similar experiences of being jolted awake by loud explosions in the early hours of the morning.
While many acknowledged that fireworks are part of the festive spirit, others argued that the celebrations have increasingly crossed into disruptive territory.
Several users pointed out that young children, elderly individuals, and even pets are often the most affected by the noise, with some describing sleepless nights and heightened anxiety caused by continuous firecracker blasts.
Others stressed that while Hari Raya is a time of joy and togetherness, mutual respect should not be overlooked.

“Kampung Baru here in KL—they were still playing (firecrackers) until 6 in the morning,” one user called mingmakan shared.
