Malaysians urge Home Ministry action after Indonesian player Adam Alis accused PDRM officers of bribery attempt
MALAYSIANS are calling on the Home Ministry (KDN) to take firm action against an Indonesian footballer who allegedly insulted police officers while they were carrying out their duties.
The controversy stems from a viral video initially uploaded by the player, Adam Alis, which showed him and two companions being stopped by police after reportedly driving against traffic flow.
In the footage, law enforcement officers requested the men to produce identification documents including passports, which they apparently failed to provide. The police officer involved also reminded them of the requirement to carry their passports at all times while in the country.
However, the video sparked widespread anger among Malaysians when Adam Alis made accusations against Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) officers in the comments, though no evidence has been presented to support his claims.
Following the incident, Malaysians have urged KDN to take decisive action. Meanwhile, Adam Alis’s social media accounts have been flooded with criticism over his behaviour.
In response to the video, influencer Zhiddin Aziz uploaded a video on TikTok calling for the attention of the authorities to the matter and reminding foreign visitors to comply with Malaysian laws.
“Malaysians are furious. He accused Malaysian police of trying to ‘pau’ (extort) him. He dares to make such accusations without knowing that Malaysian police are required to wear body cameras and microphones, which means there’s no opportunity for them to extort money from you,” Zhiddin said in the video.
“Please, KDN, remind them that Malaysian police officers are not cartoon characters to be mocked. Different countries have different procedures. When you enter someone’s home, follow their rules.
“Come as a guest, behave as a guest. This is Malaysia. Malaysian law is not a puppet to be deceived, not decoration to be wiped away, and the dignity of Malaysian police is not a floor for you to scratch as you please,” he added.
Meanwhile, others are demanding an apology from the footballer to PDRM over the alleged defamatory accusations.
“When you come to another country, you have to follow its rules. You have to carry your passport. You have to bring your license. You cannot drive against the traffic flow,” said TikTok user Kecik_ogieee.
“Hope there’s action taken and also hope there’s an apology from the perpetrator,” said TikTok user Prince Twin.
Adam Alis, who plays for Indonesian club Persib Bandung, was in the country to compete in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) match against Selangor FC at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium.
