Three diners attacked by knife-wielding men at Penang restaurant. Staff provided aid as police investigate.
A group of three diners were violently assaulted by multiple knife-wielding attackers at a restaurant in Penang, last Saturday (November 22). The victims were preparing to depart when the assault occurred.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the assailants pursued the trio—two men and one woman—further into the premises, where the attack continued before the perpetrators fled in a vehicle.
One male victim suffered significant blood loss from his injuries, while the second man was hurt after tumbling into a drainage ditch amid the commotion. The female diner escaped physical harm but was deeply distressed by the ordeal.
The following day, the establishment addressed the incident through a Facebook statement, explaining that employees intervened to drive away the attackers and prevent additional harm. Staff members provided emergency medical assistance and contacted ambulance services.
The restaurant management addressed circulating misconceptions, emphasising that the assault did not take place within their kitchen area. They clarified that the injured victim entered the kitchen specifically to receive wound treatment from staff, which resulted in blood being present on the floor.
“The kitchen has undergone thorough cleaning and disinfection to ensure environmental hygiene and food safety,” the statement read.
The establishment pledged full cooperation with law enforcement while warning that legal measures would be taken against those spreading false information about the incident.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the case, according to Sin Chew Daily.
Meanwhile, someone identifying as a relative of one injured victim confirmed through social media that he is currently in stable condition. The family is requesting anyone with video recordings of the incident to come forward, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.
