Man shares how he is still unhappy despite having nearly RM1 million in savings and house

Despite financial stability, a bachelor admits he feels empty and anxious, highlighting how wealth does not always translate into happiness or peace.

ONE may think that achieving certain milestones guarantees a sense of fulfilment in life, but sometimes it can turn out to be the opposite.

A 33-year-old bachelor recently admitted to feeling unhappy despite “doing pretty well” in life compared to his peers.

“I have a car, a house (fully paid off), and some savings—altogether close to RM1 million. But only I know that I’m not happy at all.

“Over the past few years, I’ve been stuck almost every day in anxiety, confusion, pressure, and a sense of helplessness. Why is it that I have everything, yet still feel so miserable?” he lamented in a Facebook post.

He shared that he works in a high-stakes career and is often stressed during projects, but found that his anxiety becomes worse when he is not working, leaving him stuck in an unescapable loop.

“When I have work, I want to escape. When I don’t have work, I feel even worse.”

However, he attributed his anxiety to his childhood, where he grew up poor, thereby forming a “very strong attachment to money”.

Even his attempts to enjoy his hard-earned wealth have backfired, as he experiences a contradiction between wanting to live his life and feeling anxious about his finances.

“‘Money can’t be taken with you when you die’ or ‘You earn money to spend it’—I understand all these ideas. But I just can’t apply them,” he added.

He then opened up about his struggles in relationships, mentioning his brief relationship in his younger years.

After that relationship, he focused entirely on his career and lost touch with social opportunities, especially during the pandemic.

He also admitted to drifting away from friends over the years.

“I used to turn people down because I wanted to focus on making money. Now, I barely have anyone I can talk to,” the man said.

His story has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens sharing similar experiences and urging others to prioritise mental well-being alongside financial success.
