M’sian man claims listed e-hailing driver not behind wheel

Malaysian man alleges his e-hailing driver let someone else drive and displayed unsafe behaviour, prompting safety concerns.

A Malaysian man recently called out an e-hailing driver for not being behind the wheel during her journey, after allegedly discovering that someone else was driving the vehicle.

To make matters worse, the listed driver was reportedly seated in the front passenger seat while the man and his three companions were made to squeeze into the back seat, according to a post on Threads.

“A report was lodged but no action has been taken,” he claimed in the post, adding that the driver was not a Malaysian citizen.

In the video, the listed driver can be seen sitting with her legs crossed, her bare foot exposed, in front of the air-conditioning.

According to a screenshot shared in the post, the man added that there was a “very strong” and “unusual smell” in the car throughout the journey.

The complaint also highlighted the driver’s allegedly “unsafe” behaviour, including:

  • speeding in a residential area
  • overtaking from the side at a traffic light
  • generally careless and dangerous driving

Many users admitted they too had encountered e-hailing drivers who travelled with another passenger in the vehicle—often family members—raising concerns about passenger safety.

“When I used to take e-hailing rides, I encountered drivers who would bring family members like their wives or their mothers,” one user said.

“There are e-hailing drivers like this. Sometimes their girlfriends or wives tag along. If it’s their child, I can accept it—perhaps they have no one else to look after them,” another commented.
