A woman has expressed her gratitude for being Malaysian after seeing the cost of healthcare in the Philippines, saying the experience made her realise how fortunate Malaysians are.
“Everyday I count my blessings for being Malaysian. Cheap healthcare, cheap groceries.”
In a Threads, she shared that her Filipino mother was recently hospitalised at a government hospital in the Philippines.
According to her, the hospital charged 12,000 Philippine pesos (around RM800+) — and that was just for lab work.
“Not even warded.”
She then compared her experience in Malaysia where she was hospitalised in a local government hospital for one week where she only forked out RM100.
“I was hospitalised in Malaysia, as a Malaysian in government hospital for one week, that includes meal, ct scan, and ultrasound. I paid RM100.”
Her post quickly gained traction online, with many Malaysians sharing similar stories about affordable treatment at public hospitals.

One user, @elyawahab, revealed that she was hospitalised for 31 days due to a critical illness — NMOSD (Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder) and acute transverse myelitis.
She detailed undergoing extensive treatments including: Two CT scans, MRI, Spinal tap, five sessions of plasmapheresis, four ECG tests, ultrasound, five days of IVIG treatment, and multiple medications.
Despite the intensive care and month-long stay, she shared that ward charges were RM3 per day, amounting to RM93.
“In total, I only paid RM313,” she wrote.
