Daughter moved to tears after seeing a woman who resembles her late mother, touching netizens with her heartfelt story
RECONNECTING with loved ones we have lost is impossible. While artificial intelligence can recreate images, nothing compares to seeing someone face-to-face — unless, by chance, a stranger resembles them.
A young woman recently experienced such a moment. A Threads user known as @lonelyplane_ shared that she became emotional after seeing a middle-aged woman at a shop who looked remarkably like her mother, who passed away 12 years ago from stage four colon cancer.
She posted photos of herself with her late mother alongside pictures with the stranger, shocking online users with the uncanny resemblance — the smile, spectacles, and face shape were almost identical.
In the photos with the woman, @lonelyplane_ could be seen emotional and teary-eyed, overwhelmed by the sight of a face that reminded her so strongly of her mother.
The touching post brought many to tears. Crystal Chua shared her own tearful reaction, saying, “Please don’t, I didn’t sign up to cry today.”
Another user recounted a similar experience of seeing a man who looked just like her late father — from his build and white hair to his shoes and the way he sat in the train.
“I didn’t even bring a tissue, and my hijab got wet from my tears,” she wrote.
Many expressed how lucky it is to experience such a moment. Rose, who lost her mother 17 years ago, said she hopes to one day meet someone who resembles her mum.
“I still hope that one day I’ll meet someone who looks like my mum… just a glimpse that reminds me of her. Ah, it must have eased your longing, sister,” she commented.
Uracca Leow added, “Oh my God, I’m in tears too. It’s so painful to lose someone dear to us. Seeing someone similar just feels comforting.”
