Malaysian man urges students not to mislead parents into buying gaming laptops, noting most courses only need basic devices, not high-end specs.
A Malaysian man recently called out university students for allegedly misleading their parents into buying gaming laptops for educational purposes.
Posted on the social media platform Threads, he pointed out that not every course requires a gaming laptop, stressing that a basic one is often sufficient.
“For software engineering software usage, even a basic laptop is sufficient,” he said.
He also sympathised with parents who struggle financially while trying to support their children’s studies.

“I feel sorry watching parents go through hardship when they come to buy laptops for their children entering polytechnic.
“They want to buy something like a Predator Helios 16S for their child. I asked what course the student is taking—Electrical Engineering!” he added.
“I don’t really understand students like this. Do they not know what their family’s financial situation is like, what their parents do for work, or how many dependents they have? They’re already in university and technically adults, so they should be able to think about all of this,” a user commented.
“Not all parents are knowledgeable about these things, especially those who did not have a high level of education. But usually, parents like this are willing to buy almost anything for their children who are going to study. So students, don’t take advantage of that,” said another.
