M’sian teacher moved to tears after student brings boiled eggs to school potluck

“Alhamdulillah, the boiled eggs were finished along with the other food,” said the teacher.

A Malaysian teacher has touched the hearts of netizens after sharing a bittersweet experience from a class potluck that highlighted kindness, effort and empathy.

In a Threads post shared by @azeeraffalleee_, the teacher recalled feeling deeply emotional when one of her students listed “boiled eggs” as their contribution, while other classmates were bringing items such as fried noodles, cakes, pudding and drinks.

“My heart truly broke at that moment. Still, the student made the effort to bring food to share with the class. Thinking about that effort still makes me emotional.”

On the day of the potluck, the teacher said the first food she chose to eat was the boiled eggs brought by the student, as a sign of appreciation for the effort.

“Alhamdulillah, the eggs were finished along with the other food,” she said, adding that seeing the students enjoy the meal together brought her joy.

She also explained that most of her students are non-Muslims and that she had reminded the class to bring halal food sincerely and according to their means.

The teacher said she was particularly touched by the student’s thoughtfulness, noting that boiled eggs were chosen because they were easy to prepare and suitable for everyone to eat.

Netizens flooded the comments section with praise for both the student and the teacher, with many pointing out that boiled eggs should never be looked down upon.

“Fact is, boiled eggs are actually more expensive than fried noodles,” commented @fifiezaiki, adding that the child may have been raised to eat healthy and calling boiled eggs “better than the entire class’s potluck food”.

Another user, @anysskhashul, noted that eggs are no longer cheap and said children often enjoy them. “There’s nothing wrong with boiled eggs,” the user wrote.
