KUCHING: The Sarawak Science Centre, the state government project aimed at enhancing public understanding of science and technology, is expected to be completed by 2024
Its Chief Executive Officer Shariman Jamil said the construction work of the centre on a 4.4 ha site in Petra Jaya will begin next year.
“Its target groups are students, teachers, instructors and lecturers from schools, technical institutions and institutions of higher learning, as well as their families and communities to encourage parental engagement and provide for value-added community-based learning activities.”
He said this to the media after the ground-breaking ceremony to mark the commencement of the project, which was graced by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg (pix).
In his speech at the ceremony, Abang Johari said in order for Sarawak to thrive and succeed, the younger generation in the state would need to master and able to take advantage of the emerging technologies.
“This requires a strong foundation in Science and Mathematics, not only amongst students but also the society as a whole,” he said.
Among the facilities proposed at the Sarawak Science Centre are a mini auditorium, astronomy observatory station, digital laboratory, makers space, tinkering area, science laboratory, interpretive nature walk and interactive exhibits. — Bernama
