Ariana Grande snubbed, Timothée Chalamet nominated again and Warner Bros dominates as the 2026 Oscars nominations break records.
LOS ANGELES: The 2026 Oscars nominations unveiled major surprises alongside historic achievements.
Zach Cregger’s epic “Sinners” set a new record with 16 nominations, the most for any single film.
Pop star Ariana Grande was the most high-profile snub, missing a nomination despite a larger role in “Wicked: For Good”.
The musical sequel itself failed to secure any nominations, a stark contrast to its predecessor’s 10 nods.
Other notable omissions included Chase Infiniti for “One Battle After Another” and Paul Mescal for “Hamnet”.
Surprise supporting acting nominations went to veteran Delroy Lindo for “Sinners” and Elle Fanning for Norwegian film “Sentimental Value”.
Warner Bros emerged as a dominant force with the two clear frontrunners.
The studio boasts “Sinners” with its record haul and “One Battle After Another” with 13 nominations.
This success comes amid a fierce bidding war for the century-old studio between Paramount Skydance and Netflix.
A record four non-English-language acting performances were nominated this year.
Three Norwegian actors from “Sentimental Value” and Brazil’s Wagner Moura for “The Secret Agent” made history.
Director Chloe Zhao became only the second woman to earn multiple directing nominations for her work on “Hamnet”.
The Oscars introduced its first new category in over two decades with Best Casting.
Nominations mirrored the Best Picture race, going to “Hamnet”, “Marty Supreme”, “One Battle after Another”, “The Secret Agent” and “Sinners”.
Timothée Chalamet earned his third Best Actor nomination at age 30 for “Marty Supreme”.
Chalamet also received a nod as a producer for the film, which exceeded expectations with nine total nominations.
His chances are bolstered by the film’s strong showing across technical categories like cinematography and production design.
The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15.
