Australian indie rock band Vacations has announced its upcoming album Pursuit of Anything, set for release on Oct 2 via Nettwerk, alongside the release of its lead single, Holy Grail.
Made up of vocalist and songwriter Campbell Burns, bassist Jake Johnson, guitarist Nate Delizzotti and drummer Joseph Van Lier, the band describes the album as a reflection on growing up, ambition and the complicated realities of pursuing music
full-time.
Written by the band and produced by Burns, Pursuit of Anything explores themes of self-discovery, relationships and the tension between creative passion and personal stability.
The record traces Burns’s experiences moving between Newcastle, Los Angeles and New York, while reflecting on the contrasting lives of friends and family back home.
Mixed by producer Beatriz Artola, whose previous credits include Geese and Caamp, the album promises a more emotionally expansive and layered sound for the group.
Lead single Holy Grail captures that push-and-pull dynamic through dreamy synths and melancholic lyricism.
Burns shared the song was inspired by a stressful band Zoom call during a period when Vacations struggled to balance constant touring with the desire to write new music.
“So many people I know have devoted their entire lives to music, and yet, at times it can feel as if you’re in pursuit of anything just to make it work for you,” Burns said.
The release arrives as Vacations continues its rise as one of indie music’s most streamed acts, with more than 3.5 billion streams globally, sold-out tours and multiple double-platinum hits.
Alongside the album announcement, the band also confirmed its upcoming Holy Grail Asia tour this July, which will include stops in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
