The London indie-pop band blends city pop, jazz and West Coast soul in a sun-soaked four-track release.

London-based indie-pop band Prep returns with its latest EP One Day In The Sun, released via Bright Antenna Records. The four-track project leans into the band’s signature sophisti-pop sound, pairing breezy melodies with lyrics that carry a subtle sense of nostalgia and introspection.

The EP marks a new chapter for the quartet, arriving after two full-length albums and four previous EPs. While the band has steadily built a global following, its presence in Southeast Asia continues to stand out, with a growing and dedicated listener base across the region.

Blending eras through sound

The London-based band Prep returns with a four-track EP inspired by jazz, city pop and West Coast soul.

One Day In The Sun draws from a wide range of influences. Elements of 1970s jazz and West Coast rock and soul sit alongside polished 1980s production and touches of Japanese city pop.

The result is a layered sound that feels familiar and contemporary, while remaining distinctly Prep. The release also features a collaboration with Taiwanese band Sunset Rollercoaster, reflecting the group’s strong connection to Asian audiences.

The story behind the title track

The title track carries an upbeat, polished sound shaped by saxophone lines and crisp production. Frontman Tom Havelock describes the song as a reflection on wanting to help someone through a difficult situation, anchored by a sense of quiet optimism.

He noted the band continues to draw from older musical influences while refining its sound, balancing familiarity with experimentation in each release.

Southeast Asia remains a key audience

Ahead of the official release, Prep hosted early listening sessions in Singapore, Manila and Bangkok, giving fans in Southeast Asia a first listen to the new material.

The region remains one of the band’s strongest markets, where audience growth continues to outpace other parts of the world.

Prep has recorded more than 380 million streams across digital platforms and has been ranked among the top 25 pop soul artists globally by Chartmetric.

From viral moments to festival stages

The band has completed sold-out tours across Southeast Asia, including stops in Bangkok, Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Manila.

In 2023, Prep performed at Very Festival and later headlined shows in China before closing at Clockenflap. They are also set to perform at the Seoul Jazz Festival this May.

Online, the band gained traction through its cover of As It Was by Harry Styles, which generated widespread engagement across social platforms.

Distinctly Prep identity

Formed in 2015, Prep consists of Havelock, keyboardist Llywelyn ap Myrddin, drummer Guillaume Jambel and producer-guitarist Dan Radclyffe.

Each member contributes to songwriting and production, shaping a sound that blends groove-driven pop with a distinctly British sensibility.

With One Day In The Sun, Prep continues to refine its identity, bringing together influences from across decades and regions into a cohesive, easy-listening release.
