IPOH: The Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) is building a multi-storey car park in Pekan Lama Ipoh here, to address the parking problem and traffic congestion in the tourist hotspot.
Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said the ministry had identified the location for the proposed project, which is expected to cost RM13 million.
“The multi-storey car park will comprise four or five levels of parking area with a capacity of up to 400 parking lots, hence providing the Ipoh Old Town with up to 800 parking spaces,” he told a press conference after the pre-launch of the ‘Rediscover Ipoh Oldtown’ map at Jalan Market near here today.
Also present was Canning Assemblywoman Jenny Choi Tsi Jen.
According to Nga, the Ipoh City Council(MBI) had conducted a study to solve the problem of traffic congestion in the area with the increase in tourist arrivals.
Nga, who is also Kepayang Assemblyman said the preservation of heritage art will be the main focus in developing Ipoh Old Town.
“The Ipoh Old Town has been gazetted as a heritage area. As such, any development carried out must preserve the existing heritage,“ he added. - Bernama
