EV car goes up in flames while charging at showroom

JOHOR BAHRU: An electric car (EV) caught on fire while charging at the car’s showroom, yesterday (Dec 31).

Azmu Johar, operations commander and Senior Fire Officer II, said they received an emergency call at 2.45pm yesterday and immediately dispatched a group of 10 fire fighters to the scene.

It was discovered that a Mercedes EQB was caught on fire when the fire fighters arrived.

According to Azmi Johar, the fire had consumed 90% of the car and 5% of the showroom where the incident happened.

“It also affected 20% of the EV charging bay that was located in front of the burning car.

“The cause of the fire and the actual estimated losses due to the incident are still under investigation.”
