BALIK PULAU: Recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine under the Community Vaccine Mobilisation (Movak) programme near here are generally satisfied with the vaccination process carried out at the Penang City Council Hall near Teluk Bahang, here.

Nor Laila Awang, 42, who has no transport of her own, said through Movak, it had made it easy for her to bring her mother, Che Puan Ishak, 73, who has Parkinson disease, to the vaccination centre (PPV).

She said her mother was initially given the vaccination appointment at Jalan Macalister Health Centre, near George Town, which is about 20 kilometres away from their house in Kampung Masjid, Teluk Bahang.

“I cancelled the appointment and early this month, she was given a new appointment, and given the vaccination centre at the Penang City Council Hall.

“Indeed, it was a relief. My mother has Parkinson’s disease, so it’s a problem to take her to the health centre,” she told reporters when met when accompanying her mother for the vaccination here today.

Che Puan was among about 300 individuals, comprising senior citizens, the disabled (OKU) and comorbid patients who received their first dose of the vaccine at the community hall today.

Meanwhile, a comorbid patient with health problems including high blood pressure, gout, diabetes and tuberculosis, Ahmad Farid Osman, 60, who lives alone, said he felt relieved that he had been given the first dose of the vaccine.

“If possible, I want to be given the second dose as soon as possible because I can’t wait to see my children. I miss them,” he added.

Movak is an initiative under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) to help accelerate the national vaccination programme to achieve the target of 80 percent herd immunity by October this year. — Bernama
