Foreigners seeking medical treatment in M’sia will only be allowed in if they meet criteria

PETALING JAYA: Foreigners seeking medical treatment here will only be allowed into the country if they meet the criteria set by the government, said Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix).

He said the government would like to allow travellers seeking medical care into our country but they will have to meet the government’s set regulations and adhere to the SOPs.

“The relaxation will be implemented during the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

“It will be done in two phases. Phases 1A, will only provide entry in medical evacuation cases. Only those who require intensive care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or High Dependency Unit (HDU) will be allowed.

“Phase 1B will apply to those with critical health problems such as cancer (oncology), heart (cardiology) and other diseases,“ he said in a statement today

He said those under phase 1 will only be allowed into the country by air travel. Only one caregiver will be allowed to be present throughout the entire course of the treatment.

He said those below age 12, can be accompanied by two caregivevers.

All foreign travellers seeking medical healthcare here are required to register with the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) in advance.

“They must undergo a Covid-19 screening test three days prior to their arrival in Malaysia and ensure that all relevant documents and medical payments are made.

“They are also required to download the MySejahtera mobile application,“ he said.

He added that their transportation on arrival, must be managed by the hospital or the MHTC.

On another note, he cautioned the public and said under Ops Benteng, illegals are prevented from entering the country.

Enforcement authorities have also set up roadblocks to curtail the spread of Covid-19 among illegal immigrants here.

He said the police arrested four people yesterday for ignoring the control order; two were remanded and two were issued with compounds.
