KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police have opened 25 investigation papers involving bullying offences that occurred in schools across the state during the first nine months of this year.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat revealed that six cases were reported in Kota Bharu, five in Pasir Mas, four each in Machang and Bachok, three in Tumpat, two in Kuala Krai, and one in Tanah Merah.
He emphasised that bullying is a criminal offence investigated under Sections 507B to 507G of the Penal Code, which came into force on July 11, 2025.
“This proves that bullying is not a mistake that can be taken lightly,” he said during the ‘Program Citra Remaja Unggul’ at Dewan Petra, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ismail Petra.
Mohd Yusoff urged students not to let their status be tarnished by becoming wrongdoers through actions mistakenly considered jokes.
“The culture of bullying must be stopped,” he stated, describing it as a social disease that kills empathy and love for fellow human beings.
He highlighted that bullying now extends beyond schools to social media platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and TikTok.
Mohd Yusoff identified moral decline and threats to national dignity as among the most serious challenges facing society today.
He expressed concern that social ills like rape and incest are emerging as dangerous enemies capable of undermining family harmony and destroying young generations’ futures.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that drug dealers in Kelantan are displaying luxurious lifestyles on social media to lure teenagers into becoming small-scale distributors.
Mohd Yusoff said police received information about individuals using such tactics, including showcasing luxury homes and cars.
He added that young people in the state are becoming drug dealers after being influenced by the luxury displayed by these criminals. – Bernama
