Motorcyclist dies in in three-vehicle collision

KOTA BHARU: A 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving three vehicles at KM35 Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai at 7.30 pm yesterday.

Machang district police chief Supt Ahmad Shafiki Hussin said the initial investigation found that all the vehicles involved were coming from the same direction, from Machang heading towards Kota Bharu.

He said that the accident occurred when the EX5 type motorcycle ridden by the victim was believed to be moving in the left lane, before making a sudden U-turn, which caused the driver of Proton Iswara trailing behind him not to be able to stop in time and crash into the motorcyclist.

“Soon after, a Proton Saga car from behind crashed into the victim’s motorcycle,” he said in a statement today.

He said due to the impact of the accident, the motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene.

Ahmad Shafiki said a urine test was performed on the driver of the Proton Iswara at the Narcotics office of the Machang district police headquarters (IPD), and found that he was positive for ketum; he was arrested and handed over to the Machang IPD Narcotics office.

He said that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Those who have information about the incident are urged to come forward to help the investigation and contact the traffic investigation officer, Inspector Khairulanwar Adam, at 011-1008 5165 or IPD Machang Operations Room at 09-975 1222.
