NIBONG TEBAL: Police have dismantled a burglary syndicate with the arrest of five suspects, including a woman, during an early morning break-in at Eco Meadows, Bukit Tambun.

Security guards monitoring CCTV footage at 3am spotted two men acting suspiciously and entering multiple houses in the gated community.

The guards immediately filed a police report, prompting officers from Bukit Tambun police station to respond swiftly to the scene.

Police initially arrested one man at the location, with subsequent investigations leading to four additional arrests.

Authorities confiscated a Toyota Avanza, a Honda Civic Efi, three motorcycles, five mobile phones and various housebreaking tools during the operation.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 47, are believed responsible for 28 burglary cases across South, Central and North Seberang Perai since mid-year.

Total losses from their criminal activities exceed RM100,000, according to police estimates.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail revealed the gang specifically targeted luxury and gated houses.

“Their modus operandi is to target luxury and gated houses by walking in and using small chisels to break in through the main door,” Azizee said in a statement.

All five suspects have been remanded to assist with further investigations into the burglary ring. – Bernama
