KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police are fully prepared to maintain public safety and ensure smooth operations during the 17th state election next month.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun confirmed that 8,900 police personnel will be deployed statewide.

The deployment includes 1,200 officers from Sarawak and Bukit Aman to support election security.

Preparations cover all aspects including public order, logistics and inter-agency coordination.

Operations are progressing smoothly according to police assessments.

“We’ve held several coordination meetings with the Election Commission and other agencies to streamline roles during the election,“ Jauteh told reporters at the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters.

Polling is scheduled for November 29 with nomination day set for November 15.

Early voting will take place on November 25 for eligible voters.

Police are also preparing for challenges in remote or island areas during the election period.

Jauteh specifically highlighted potential disruptions related to the northeast monsoon season.

He urged all parties to comply with election regulations and avoid provocation during the campaign period.

Overall security remains stable and under control throughout the state.
