SERIAN: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department has surveyed 1,217,766 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land since 2010.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said 938,342 hectares have been gazetted as of September 30 this year.
He said the state government has gazetted 12 localities covering 12,370.232 hectares and 36 villages.
The gazetted villages include Kampung Tebakang Dayak, Kampung Semuja, Kampung Seniawan, Kampung Terbat, and Kampung Igom.
Other villages are Kampung Belimbing, Kampung Tabuan Rabak, Kampung Seratau, Kampung Semeru, Kampung Emperoh Gerung, and Kampung Danu.
All lands were gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code as Native Communal Reserves.
Awang Tengah said the second stage involves surveying individual lots and issuing Section 18 title deeds.
He stressed that surveying only occurs with land claimants’ consent and after resolving boundary disputes.
“The cooperation of tribal leaders, community leaders and landowners is important for implementing this programme without delay,“ he said.
He emphasised that surveys only proceed after reviewing valid applications with legal evidence.
Cases still in court will not be surveyed until they are resolved, he added.
Meanwhile, RM9,867,937.55 in compensation was handed to 57 recipients for infrastructure projects in Serian.
Awang Tengah is also Sarawak’s Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development. – Bernama
