KUCHING: Sarawak will showcase its renewable energy and semiconductor industry development experience at the 47th ASEAN Summit from October 26 to 28.
Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg confirmed his participation as a speaker at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre event.
He stated that both sectors form the core of Sarawak’s development strategy and economic growth plans.
“These focus areas align perfectly with regional priorities around green economy initiatives and emerging technologies,“ he told reporters after officiating the 8th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak.
The Premier emphasised Sarawak’s balanced approach between technological advancement and human capital development.
“In the semiconductor sector, artificial intelligence depends heavily on chip functionality,“ he explained.
“Therefore, Sarawak is now concentrating on education in chip design to build local expertise.”
Abang Johari also welcomed United States President Donald Trump’s attendance at the summit.
He expressed hope that the American leader would gain deeper insight into Asia-Pacific geopolitics through the engagement.
“Previous tariff policies from the Trump administration affected regional investment climates,“ he noted.
The Premier hopes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will conduct constructive discussions to address resulting economic challenges. – Bernama
