SEPANG: Chinese Premier Li Qiang has arrived in Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 26 to 28.

The special aircraft carrying Li and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4.17 pm.

Minister of Transport Anthony Loke welcomed the Chinese Premier upon his arrival.

Li inspected a guard of honour comprising 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s official website, Li will participate in the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit.

He will also attend the 20th East Asia Summit and the fifth Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Leaders’ Meeting.

Li is undertaking his second visit to Malaysia this year at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Chinese Premier previously visited Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN-China-GCC Summit from May 26 to 28.

That earlier visit also came at the invitation of Anwar in his capacity as the ASEAN Chair for 2025.

Li made a two-day visit to Singapore on October 25 and 26 before coming to Malaysia.

Earlier on Thursday, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung arrived at 2.45 pm and was welcomed by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Lee’s two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur marks his first trip to Southeast Asia since taking office in June.

He is expected to attend the ASEAN Summit where he plans to discuss advancing South Korea’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the 10-member bloc.

The South Korean President will also participate in the ASEAN Plus Three Summit involving South Korea, Japan and China.

Malaysia as ASEAN Chair 2025 is currently hosting over 30 world leaders from the ASEAN region and beyond.

Leaders from the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are attending the summit.

The gathering aims to deepen engagement and cooperation while addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern. – Bernama
