Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid attends 8th China International Import Expo, reinforcing Malaysia-China trade ties and promoting halal exports.
SHANGHAI: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi attended the opening ceremony of the 8th China International Import Expo today.
The event was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai at the invitation of the Chinese government.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang officiated the ceremony, highlighting China’s commitment to global trade cooperation.
This marks Ahmad Zahid’s first attendance at the expo and Malaysia’s sixth high-level participation since the event began in 2018.
The CIIE serves as a major platform for Belt and Road Initiative countries to export goods and services to China.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, is on a four-day working visit to Shanghai from November 4 to 7.
During his visit, he will officiate the Malaysia International Halal Showcase Shanghai 2025 on November 6.
MIHAS@Shanghai runs from November 5 to 10 alongside the CIIE event.
This marks the second international edition following the successful MIHAS@Dubai 2024.
“China remains one of Malaysia’s most important trading partners,” Ahmad Zahid said.
“Through platforms such as CIIE and MIHAS@Shanghai, we not only reinforce our bilateral economic relations but also create new opportunities for Malaysia’s halal industry and SMEs to access high-value global markets.”
The working visit reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening economic ties with China.
It aligns with the government’s policy to expand international market access for Malaysian products, particularly in halal and rural development sectors. – Bernama
