Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim inaugurates Seberang Perai UTC at Penang Sentral, offering integrated government services to northern region residents.
BUTTERWORTH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today inaugurated the Seberang Perai Urban Transformation Centre at Penang Sentral Transport Terminal.
The UTC is expected to benefit more than one million residents from surrounding areas, including southern Kedah and northern Perak.
Anwar arrived at 3.20pm and was welcomed by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and several federal ministers.
He spent approximately one hour touring the facility, which becomes Malaysia’s 24th UTC and the second in Penang after Komtar UTC.
The Ministry of Finance stated this initiative was announced during Budget 2025 last October.
Located within an integrated transport hub connecting KTM, buses, ferries and taxis, the UTC strengthens Butterworth’s position as a socio-economic focal point.
It serves as a vital gateway to the Northern Corridor Economic Region.
Operating daily from 8am to 9pm, the centre houses various key government agencies.
These include the National Registration Department, Immigration Department, Road Transport Department and Health Ministry clinics.
Also present are the Royal Malaysia Police, Public Services Commission and Inland Revenue Board.
Value-added facilities include the fourth Sentuhan MADANI Kiosk nationwide and first outside Klang Valley.
The Cash Aid Information Hub manages various assistance programmes including Rahmah Cash Contribution and Budi MADANI RON95.
A Public-Private Sector Career Hub offers job seekers access to career information and advisory services.
Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad designed and built the UTC based on MoF guidelines.
The facility features an integrated Smart Queue Management System, open workspaces and modern equipment.
Its establishment sets a new benchmark for urban transformation centres nationwide, emphasising efficiency and user-friendliness. – Bernama
