KUALA LUMPUR: Continuous rain is forecast for several areas in Sarawak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor from Sunday until Tuesday.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued an alert-level warning for Sarawak affecting Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah from Saturday until December 16.
Similar conditions are forecast across Terengganu and parts of Kelantan including Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh for three days starting Sunday.
Continuous rain is also expected in Johor’s Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi districts and in Pahang’s Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin areas from Sunday until Tuesday.
In a separate alert, MetMalaysia issued a Category 1 Strong Wind and Rough Sea Warning for waters off East Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan effective until Thursday.
The department said strong northeasterly winds of 40 to 50 km/h with waves up to 3.5 metres were expected in the affected waters.
These conditions are dangerous for small boats, recreational sea activities and marine sports.
MetMalaysia also warned of a rise in sea level in the waters off East Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan from Saturday to Monday.
This condition could lead to seawater overflowing along the coast, particularly in low-lying and exposed areas. – Bernama
