E-hailing driver denies knife and intimidation charges

A Melaka e-hailing driver pleads not guilty to possessing a knife and frightening a young woman, with bail set at RM11,000 and a case mention scheduled for March.

MELAKA: An e-hailing driver pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court today to two charges related to a knife incident last Saturday.

Lim Toh Seng, 50, entered his plea before Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin after the charges were read out.

The first charge accuses him of possessing a knife without lawful permission under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1957.

This offence is punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of RM10,000, or both.

The second charge is for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

He is accused of intentionally frightening a 21-year-old woman by chasing her while armed with a knife.

This charge carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Both offences are alleged to have occurred in a supermarket parking lot here around 9.30 pm on Feb 7.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Asri Abd Rahman Sidik proposed bail of RM30,000 for the first charge and RM10,000 for the second.

He also requested conditions that the accused must not harass the victim and must report monthly to a police station.

The accused’s lawyer, Ishak Mohd Kari, requested reduced bail, citing his client is a single father caring for an 11-year-old child.

He also stated his client had previously lost RM10,000 to a scam.

Judge Raja Noor Adilla granted bail of RM8,000 for the first charge and RM3,000 for the second, with one surety each.

The court upheld the additional conditions proposed by the prosecution.

The case has been set for mention on March 26.
