Selangor customs seized 14 reconditioned cars, including a Porsche and Maybach, from a warehouse operating with an expired licence.
SHAH ALAM: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department seized 14 reconditioned imported vehicles worth over RM3.34 million during a raid last month.
Selangor Customs director Mohamad Azhar Ahmad Paharazi said the operation targeted a vehicle storage warehouse in Shah Alam on September 9.
Further inspection revealed the warehouse had been operating with an expired licence for five months.
“The seized vehicles include a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Mercedes-Benz S680 Maybach, Mercedes-Benz GLA35, Lexus RX300, and Toyota Harrier,” he told a press conference.
He said these reconditioned vehicles were believed to have been imported from Asia and Europe.
Their estimated total value was RM1.34 million with unpaid taxes exceeding RM2 million.
“Vehicle warehouses are usually granted an operational licence valid for up to 48 months,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
In a separate case, customs also seized 1,314 litres of liquor worth RM268,189 at the West Port Free Zone on October 6.
Mohamad Azhar said the consignment lacked an import permit and was believed to have arrived from a European country on September 14.
Both cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) and (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Conviction carries a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine of up to 20 times the goods’ value or RM500,000, whichever is higher. – Bernama
