Police arrest elderly man, seize RM320,000 in contraband cigarettes

Police in Klang arrest a 60-year-old man and seize 750 cartons of untaxed cigarettes worth RM320,000 during a joint operation.

KLANG: Police have arrested a 60-year-old man suspected of distributing contraband cigarettes.

The arrest was made during a joint operation in Klang on Wednesday.

The operation, codenamed Op Taring Alpha 1, involved the General Operations Force and the Klang Selatan district police.

During the raid at 2.30 pm, authorities seized 750 cartons of untaxed white cigarettes.

A Nissan Almera believed to be used for distribution was also confiscated.

The total value of the seized items is estimated at RM320,000.

“The 60-year-old man and all seized items were taken to the Klang Selatan IPD for further investigation under the Customs Act 1967,” said Battalion 4 Commander Supt Amanjit Singh.

He urged the public to cooperate and report any illegal activities to the police.
