Sibu police report RM924,764 in drug seizures and 1,471 arrests in 2025, a major increase from 2024, alongside a surge in commercial crime losses
SIBU: Police here seized drugs worth almost RM1 million in 2025, marking a major enforcement victory.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the total value of RM924,764 was a sharp increase from the RM175,946 seized in 2024.
The number of arrests also rose significantly to 1,471 from 1,103 the previous year. Of those detained, 1,040 were identified as drug addicts.
“Congratulations and well done to the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department for its encouraging performance through arrests, seizures and enforcement action against traffickers and drug users,” Zulkipli said.
He added that the success protects the community and contributes to social well-being and the safety of future generations.
Zulkipli was speaking at the Sibu district police headquarters monthly assembly.
He also highlighted an alarming increase in commercial crime within the district last year.
Total losses from commercial crime in 2025 amounted to RM20.34 million, which should not be taken lightly.
The highest losses involved investment scam cases totalling RM9.55 million, followed by e-purchase scams and fake job offers.
“This situation is a ‘red flag’ that must not be taken lightly. The public needs to remain vigilant to avoid becoming victims of scams,” he said.
On other enforcement, police conducted 59 operations to curb illegal street racing throughout last year.
These operations resulted in 1,607 summonses issued and 21 arrests.
Those detained were charged in court under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
