Defence personnel reminded to stay focused on national security

Defence Minister advises armed forces to remain neutral and safeguard national security, not be swayed by political climate ahead of Sabah polls

KOTA BELUD: Defence personnel have been reminded to remain focused on their core responsibility of safeguarding national security and sovereignty.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said armed forces personnel must not be swayed by the current political climate.

He emphasised that personnel must always be clear about their roles to ensure national peace is preserved, even in a dynamic political environment.

“This is why we hope defence personnel will not be influenced by such circumstances,” he told reporters at the Malaysian Armed Forces family day here.

Mohamed Khaled stressed that their duty and role is specifically to safeguard the country’s security.

He said unity among armed forces personnel, their families and the local community is crucial.

This ensures the MAF remains strong and united in carrying out its duty to defend the country.

The minister also emphasised that ensuring Sabah’s security is a shared responsibility of all armed forces personnel.

This responsibility applies regardless of personnel’s home state.

The reminder comes ahead of the 17th Sabah State Election scheduled for November 29.

Early voting for the state election will take place on November 25. – Bernama
