Firefighter and brother feared drowned at Kelantan beach

A firefighter and his younger brother are missing and feared drowned after attempting to rescue a nephew at Pantai Kandis in Bachok.

KOTA BHARU: A firefighter and his younger brother are missing and feared drowned after they went into the water to rescue a nephew at Pantai Kandis in Bachok this afternoon.

The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) identified the missing brothers as Ahmad Badrul Naim Ab Wahab, 32, a personnel from the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station in Penang, and his 21-year-old brother Ahmad Nuruddin Ab Wahab.

Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer Khairul Faiz Ariffin said the department received an emergency call at 5.29 pm and a team from the Bachok station arrived at the scene by 6.07 pm.

He stated that the brothers had been at the beach with family members before they went missing after entering the water to save their nephew, who was believed to have been in difficulty.

Nine firefighters from the Bachok station were immediately deployed to search the shoreline for the two men.

The search operation has since been expanded with the involvement of the Water Rescue Team from the Pengkalan Chepa and Pengkalan Kubor fire stations.

As of the latest update, the victims have not been found and the search and rescue operation is still ongoing.
