Flood victims in Sarawak drop to 427 as relief centres close

Flood situation in Sarawak improves with 427 victims remaining at three relief centres as water levels at three stations stay above danger mark.

SIBU: The number of flood victims in Sarawak has decreased to 427 people from 129 families as of this morning.

This follows the closure of a relief centre at the SMK Bukit Assek Hall in Sibu yesterday evening.

Three temporary relief centres remain operational across the state, according to the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee.

The active centres are the Dewan Suarah Bintulu, sheltering 184 victims, the Sebauh Community Hall with 148 victims, and the Dewan Sri Kemena, SMK Sebauh housing 95 victims.

The total represents a drop from 507 people from 158 families recorded yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, water levels at three river stations remain above the danger level as of 7.30 am today.

The affected stations are Long Teru in Miri, and Nanga Lemai B and Stapang B in Sibu.

Five other stations are at the warning level, according to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s Public Infobanjir portal.
