Brazil’s ex-president Jair Bolsonaro transferred to a 65 sq m cell at Papuda prison complex following a Supreme Court justice’s ruling.
BRASILIA: Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been transferred to a larger cell at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex.
The move followed an order from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Thursday.
Bolsonaro had been serving his 27-year sentence for plotting a coup in a much smaller cell at a Federal Police facility.

Justice Moraes argued the penitentiary complex offers better conditions for medical assistance and weekly family visits.
The ex-president will be held in a building known as Papudinha, which has housed other politicians.
His new cell measures approximately 65 square metres, significantly larger than his previous 12-square-metre room.
The space includes a separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room, and he will serve his sentence alone.
The far-right leader has a history of abdominal surgeries from a 2018 stabbing during a campaign event.
Bolsonaro has sought permission to serve his sentence under “humanitarian house arrest,” which has been denied.
