Ex-Sabah FC coach Ong Kim Swee remembers late president Bung Moktar Radin as a leader who protected player and staff welfare with total trust
KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah FC coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee described the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin as a leader who always cared for the football team’s players and coaching staff.
Kim Swee said the late leader’s tenure as Sabah Football Association president was characterised by total, non-interfering trust placed in him as head coach.
He said Bung Moktar was a pivotal figure who provided him with the opportunity and confidence to helm Sabah FC.
Kim Swee viewed the former Sabah Deputy Chief Minister as a fighter and credible leader.
“Datuk Bung Moktar always ensured the welfare of players and coaches was protected and consistently considered what was best for every individual in the team,” he told reporters.
He spoke after paying his final respects at Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu.
Kim Swee coached Sabah FC between 2021 and 2024.
He said Bung Moktar’s passing is a great loss not only to the people of Sabah but also to the state’s football arena.
Bung Moktar, 66, was the member of parliament for Kinabatangan.
He passed away at a private hospital here at 1.46 am today.
