New Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh commits to clean environment and governance, focusing on basic services and cooperation with MPs
PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has reiterated her commitment to administer the Federal Territories in a clean manner in terms of environment and governance.
She said her initial agenda is to ensure Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan become clean territories, focusing on integrity and basic services for the people.
“Form and substance means not only a clean environment, but also clean governance,” she told the media after officially reporting for duty with her deputy Datuk Lo Su Fui.
Yeoh said her and her deputy’s legal backgrounds are an advantage in understanding governance and legal issues in the Federal Territories.
She added that the strategic appointment of a deputy minister from Sabah reflects the government’s commitment to giving Labuan greater attention.
Commenting on concerns regarding racial issues following her appointment, Yeoh stressed that racial background has never been a factor in her duties.
“Since 2008, whether as a state assemblyman, Speaker, MP for Segambut, Deputy Minister or Minister, my focus has always remained on policies and implementation,” she said.
She emphasised that her mind and heart have always been committed to serving the people, ready to work immediately and let her record of achievement be the proof.
Armed with that experience, she said she would give priority and close cooperation to all Federal Territories Members of Parliament.
“As representatives of the people, they understand the pulse of their respective constituencies,” she said, adding that their voice deserves to be heard as the voice of democracy.
