Kelantan prioritises high-impact projects for maximum public benefit amid economic uncertainty, with strict fiscal governance and enhanced monitoring.
KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan state government will prioritise projects offering maximum returns and direct public benefit amid current economic uncertainties.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said this prudent approach is a key proactive measure for the 2026 Budget. He stated the volatile global climate could impact initial state planning for expenditure and programme implementation.
“In view of this, the 2026 Budget expenditure will be managed prudently,” he said. He emphasised considering the short- and long-term impacts on the state’s finances and the national economy.
He was responding to a question at the State Legislative Assembly regarding mechanisms to ensure budget implementation. Nassuruddin stressed that federal and state government cooperation is vital for smooth national project implementation.
The State Treasury Office and Economic Planning Unit coordinate and monitor programmes under the 2026 Budget. Their role is to ensure these initiatives achieve established targets and objectives.
“The state government will intensify the monitoring of high-impact development projects of public interest,” he added. This will involve reviewing project priorities, conducting impact studies, and assessing financial costs.
These projects will be regulated by the State Development Action Committee, chaired by the State Secretary. The Coordination and Special Programmes Division serves as the secretariat for monitoring development projects.
Monitoring mechanisms include monthly reporting, periodic site visits, and follow-up actions on delayed projects. These steps target initiatives that fail to meet set timelines or objectives.
