Lembah Pantai e-hailing riders receive free insurance boost

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has announced a one-year insurance sponsorship for 350 e-hailing riders in his constituency as a Ramadan gift.

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 350 e-hailing riders in Lembah Pantai have received a one-year insurance premium sponsorship under the ‘Perlindungan Tenang’ scheme.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP, announced the sponsorship at the Special Satellite Programme: Ihya Ramadan Temumi 2.0 2026@Lembah Pantai.

He said the initiative reflects the MADANI Government’s serious attention to the welfare of gig economy workers.

“This is also a token of appreciation to the riders who, during the Movement Control Order, were regarded as frontliners,” Fahmi said.

He added that he has not forgotten their contribution.

After the sponsorship ends, riders may continue the insurance coverage at a rate of RM100 per year.

Fahmi also expressed his intention to establish a dedicated rest stop for e-hailing riders in the area.

“I also intend to set up a rest area for riders because among their main concerns is the lack of a place to rest between jobs,” he said.

He noted that riders sometimes just need a spot to take a breather while waiting for the next order.

Several locations have been identified for the proposed rest area.

Discussions will be held with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to examine implementation aspects.

This includes whether permanent or temporary structures can be put in place.

Earlier at the event, Fahmi also presented cash assistance to the e-hailing riders who attended the programme.
