Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission calls for formal complaints to investigate claims of money solicitation and payment to a politician.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called for any party with credible information about alleged solicitation and payment of money to a politician to lodge an official report.
The commission stated that a formal complaint is necessary to enable a thorough, transparent and fact-based investigation.
“The MACC also takes note of various allegations circulating in the media (regarding this case) and to date, no official report has been received by the MACC in relation to these claims, and the information that has gone viral has yet to be verified,” it said in a statement.
It added that the commission is committed to examining all information received.
Any action will only be taken based on solid evidence and in accordance with legal provisions.
The statement follows media reports citing businessman Victor Chin’s claims about an MP.
Chin had initially alleged that a Member of Parliament requested RM10 million to help resolve an issue he was facing.
He later clarified that the payment was not given directly to the MP to resolve the issue.
Instead, the money was paid to a ‘middleman’ as a ‘service fee’, with RM500,000 reportedly unpaid as the issue was not resolved.
