Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expresses solidarity with Kuwait and Oman over sovereignty concerns, commends mediation efforts and calls for regional restraint.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed its support and solidarity with Kuwait and Oman amid heightened tensions in West Asia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed the message during separate discussions with Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi.

Anwar said he conveyed Malaysia’s sympathies as both nations face challenges related to their sovereignty and national security.

He also expressed appreciation for both governments’ commitments to safeguarding the safety of Malaysian residents in their countries.

In his Facebook post, Anwar commended Oman for its efforts in facilitating mediation between the United States and Iran.

All parties agreed the situation should be addressed through peaceful means.

They also emphasised that restraint must be exercised to avoid further destabilisation of the region.

Tensions escalated after Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran.

Tehran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against US interests in Gulf countries.
