Melaka approves 50 Ramadan and eight Aidilfitri bazaars for over 4,000 traders, with strict warnings against licence misuse.
MELAKA: The state is set to host 50 Ramadan bazaars and eight Aidilfitri bazaars this festive season. More than 4,000 traders will participate across the four local council areas.
Deputy senior executive councillor Datuk Zulkiflee Mohd Zin detailed the distribution of the Ramadan bazaars. The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) area will have 19 bazaars, while Alor Gajah and Jasin municipal councils will each host 10.
The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) area will operate 11 Ramadan bazaars. For Aidilfitri, two bazaars are approved in the MBMB area at the popular Banda Hilir and Klebang sites.
Three Aidilfitri bazaars each will operate in the MPAG and MPHTJ areas. The Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) area will not have any Aidilfitri bazaars this year.
Zulkiflee noted the Banda Hilir and Klebang Aidilfitri bazaars will open about a week before Ramadan. This timing caters to the long holiday period expected during that time.
He issued a stern warning against the misuse of bazaar licences. Firm action, including licence revocation, will be taken against traders who transfer their permits to other parties.
“This issue will be monitored by the organisers as well as the local authorities,” he said. The move aims to prevent parties from profiteering by selling licences at inflated prices.
Zulkiflee emphasised the state does not want such incidents to tarnish its reputation. He spoke after officiating a briefing for the Melaka Ramadan and Aidilfitri Bazaars 2026.
The event was also attended by MBMB mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.
