Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasises that cooperation between national and local parties is essential for Sabah’s development continuity.
TENOM: Close cooperation between local and national political parties is crucial for ensuring development continuity in Sabah following the state election, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Significant progress has been achieved under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah administration together with Pakatan Harapan, he noted.
“I agree that we need both national and local parties because, without cooperation, development cannot move forward,” Anwar stated at the Harapan Urang Sabah meet-and-greet session with the Melalap community.
“Do not be arrogant. What we reject are those who are bad, want to steal people’s money, and are lazy.”
He emphasised supporting good and hardworking leaders while examining their track records.
“If I did nothing, problems relating to roads and water would not be resolved,” Anwar added.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as PH chairman, stressed that a PH victory is vital for maintaining strong state-federal government cooperation.
“PH is not contesting to grab the Chief Minister’s post. We are contesting because we want to maintain existing policies and work together with the state government,” he explained.
“We want to develop Sabah, that is what is important.”
Anwar highlighted ongoing issues including water problems, potholed roads and electricity supply concerns that require resolution.
“We want good relations between the state and federal governments so that these problems can be resolved quickly,” he said.
PH candidate Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, present at the event, faces a seven-cornered fight in the Melalap state seat under the Tenom parliamentary constituency.
Polling is scheduled for November 29 with early voting on November 25. – Bernama
