More than 200 food court and hawker centre upgrading projects nationwide are on track for full completion by December, says Nga Kor Ming.
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 200 upgrading projects involving food courts and hawker centres nationwide this year are targeted for full completion by December, in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen public amenities for the comfort of the people.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, in a Facebook post, said the projects under his ministry involved costs ranging between RM300,000 and RM500,000.
“The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) approved an allocation of RM60 million to upgrade more than 200 food courts and hawker centres. Over the past three years, KPKT has also completed 15,082 infrastructure projects nationwide.
“In addition, the residential road resurfacing project in Perak involving about 800 routes with an allocation of RM40 million has also been fully completed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nga said after more than two decades of waiting, the newly upgraded Greentown Utama Food Court now offered a more modern and comfortable environment.
The upgrading works for the food court began in August 2025 and were fully completed on Jan 31 this year, involving repainting, installation of industrial fans (heli fans) and replacement of tables and chairs for customers.
