A landslide on Jalan Wang Kelian has left 400 people stranded, including 300 Malaysians returning from Thailand, now sheltered at a local mosque
KANGAR: Approximately 400 people are stranded in Wang Kelian following a landslide that blocked the main road this afternoon.
The landslide occurred on Jalan Wang Kelian around 1 pm after continuous rainfall since early morning.
Padang Besar District Police chief ACP Mohd Shokri Abdullah confirmed the group includes 300 Malaysians returning from Thailand via the Wang Kelian ICQS Complex.
The remaining individuals are local residents affected by flooding in the area.
All stranded persons are currently being sheltered at Masjid Nurul Husna in Wang Kelian.
Mohd Shokri stated they are safe at the mosque, which is located on higher ground away from immediate danger.
Police are monitoring the situation continuously alongside other agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department.
The Civil Defence Force and Public Works Department are also involved in the ongoing monitoring efforts.
As of tonight, the road remains completely closed to all traffic due to safety concerns.
Authorities fear further landslides could occur, making the route unsafe for travel.
