Political secretary says RCI calls need solid evidence, not hearsay, as existing probes into MACC chief’s shares must run their course.
KUALA LUMPUR: Calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into share ownership allegations involving MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki must be based on solid evidence.
Political Secretary to the Finance Minister Kamil Munim (pic) said such calls should not rest on speculation or innuendo.
“I respect any proposal to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry and agree, in principle, that the truth must be determined through a transparent process grounded in the law,” he said in a statement.
He urged the public not to engage in prolonged pre-emptive politics that override due process.
Kamil said existing processes, whether investigations or special committees, should be allowed to run their course.
He added that an inquiry was ordered a day after a Bloomberg report, showing the government’s readiness to investigate.
“Our primary aim is to ensure justice is based on facts, not perception or political pressure,” he said.
The government previously set up a special investigation committee on the matter, chaired by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
