Malaysia’s Cabinet Committee on Youth Development has approved three key papers focusing on political literacy, road safety leadership, and data collection for NEET youth.

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet Committee on Youth Development (JKPB) has approved three consideration papers focusing on youth participation in democratic affairs and political literacy, empowering youth as agents of change, and strengthening data, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

Ahmad Zahid, who is JKPB chairman, said this includes the Program Kuasa Orang Muda (KOM) by IMPACT under the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), aimed at enhancing youth awareness of politics and democracy.

“In this regard, the KOM roadshow will be implemented with the involvement of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Human Resources through student participation and the provision of facilities at education and training institutions,” he said in a statement issued after the 7th JKPB meeting today.

Also approved was the Malaysia Wellbeing Generation Programme (MyGENTERA) by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) under the Ministry of Transport, aimed at empowering youth as leaders and agents of change in road safety.

MyGENTERA will be implemented as a platform to empower youth in the field of road safety, with the support and cooperation of all ministries through the integration of existing programmes, resources and platforms to broaden its impact.

In addition, he said the collection of data on youth profiles categorised as Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET), along with integrated development initiatives by the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES) under KBS, will also be carried out to strengthen an inclusive youth development ecosystem.

“In this regard, the integrated implementation of NEET initiatives at the national level will involve ministries, departments and agencies in data collection and updates, as well as expanding employment, education and training opportunities for NEET youth,” he said.

The JKPB meeting also expressed support for efforts to strengthen youth identity-building through active participation via the Rakan Muda Mega Calendar initiative, adopting the approach of “One Month, One Lifestyle”.

Among the programme focuses to be implemented are Rakan Bumi, Rakan Demokrasi, Rakan Digital, Rakan Mahir, Rakan Muzik, Rakan Aktif, Rakan Litar and Rakan Prihatin.

“This initiative will also be strengthened through the appointment of 90 Teraju Muda in each parliamentary constituency, who will serve as facilitators for the implementation of government initiatives at the grassroots level.

“I am confident that we can further strengthen the youth development agenda comprehensively, particularly in producing a generation that is resilient, has integrity, is capable and able to contribute significantly to the nation’s progress and well-being,” he said.
