Flood victims in Sabah rise to 300 as more shelters open

Sabah flood evacuees increase to 300 from 93 families, with five relief centres activated across 30 affected villages in Paitan district

KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims in Sabah has risen to 300 people from 93 families as of this morning.

This marks an increase from 270 evacuees from 82 families recorded yesterday.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat confirmed the latest figures in a statement.

It reported that 30 villages in the Paitan district are now affected by the flooding.

Five temporary relief centres (PPS) have been activated to accommodate the displaced residents.

The open centres are the Batagon Darat Community Centre, PCS Purubatu Church, Surau Nur Hikmah Kampung Kaindangan, SK Lubang Buaya Hall, and the Paitan District Open Hall.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms in several interior areas of the state throughout today.
