Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment begins after decade-long wait

Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment project officially starts, offering modern homes and incentives after 10-year delay, with 4-year completion target

KUALA LUMPUR: The long-delayed Kampung Sungai Baru redevelopment project officially commenced today, ending residents’ nearly decade-long wait.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the project would provide modern, comfortable homes with various appreciation incentives for patient residents.

“Today, we are opening the project site for residents to see for themselves the improved living conditions they can look forward to,” she stated at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Hundreds of resident representatives attended the ceremony and viewed an exhibition showcasing the model homes being developed.

The new residential units will range from 900 to 1,200 square feet with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Dr Zaliha announced several developer-agreed incentives including free maintenance charges for the first year.

Residents will receive a 70% maintenance discount from the second to tenth year following the initial free period.

The developer will provide additional home fittings worth up to RM2 million including air conditioning units and kitchen hoods.

A new RM15 million access road to the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway will be fully developer-funded.

Dr Zaliha pledged to personally monitor project progress with agency and resident support to ensure timely completion.

Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Na’im Mokhtar, a Kampung Sungai Baru native, thanked the government for resolving the long-standing issue.

“We have finally closed a chapter that has dragged on for 10 years,” he expressed gratefully.

He specifically acknowledged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s role in resolving the prolonged matter.

Dr Na’im urged residents to help monitor the project to ensure quality and timeline compliance.

The residential unit allocation lottery is expected to open to residents within the next two months.

The project is scheduled for completion within four years following today’s official commencement. – Bernama
